Printable.biz.id – Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Nasaruddin Umar has confirmed that six victims who died in the Umrah bus accident have been buried in Saudi Arabia.
He also assured that the insurance claims process for the victims is currently being finalized.
"The deceased have been taken care of, and the insurance and all related matters are also being processed," said Nasaruddin when speaking to reporters at a fast-breaking event at the BPP IKA UINAM Secretariat in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (May 22, 2025).
Nasaruddin added that the Indonesian government has established standard procedures for handling accidents involving its citizens abroad, particularly in Saudi Arabia, Mecca, and Medina.
"InsyaAllah, we already have standard operating procedures for handling citizens who experience accidents abroad, especially in Saudi Arabia, Mecca, and Medina. We have implemented the necessary measures," he explained.
This tragic accident occurred on Thursday (March 20) at 1:30 PM local time (5:30 PM WIB). A bus carrying a group of Umrah pilgrims was involved in a severe collision, overturning and catching fire.
According to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Saudi Arabia, the accident happened in Wadi Qudeid after the bus crashed into a jeep that suddenly cut in front of it.
"The bus then hit the jeep, overturned, and caught fire. Both vehicles were completely burned on the roadside, but they did not block the road as they shifted into the sandy area beside the highway," the statement read.
The government continues to monitor the case closely and ensure that the victims' rights are fulfilled, including processing insurance claims for the families of the deceased.
