Printable.biz.id – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has proposed that insurance be included as part of the government's Free Nutritious Meal program. However, there is still no certainty on how this scheme will be implemented.
The Head of the Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Regulation and Development Department at OJK, Djonieri, stated that discussions on the role of insurance in this program are still in the early stages.
"Not yet, as of now, there is no certainty regarding the scheme for insurance involvement. So, we are still proposing that this is important, that insurance has a role here, but until now, nothing has been decided," he said after attending the launch of the AAUI Agricultural Insurance Development Roadmap 2025-2030 in Jakarta on Monday (March 24).
Two Ways Insurance Can Contribute
According to Djonieri, there are two possible ways insurance can play a role in the Free Nutritious Meal program:
1. Consumer Protection – If the distributed food causes side effects such as vomiting or poisoning, insurance could cover the costs.
2. Distribution Protection – If there are issues in food delivery, insurance could provide coverage against such risks.
Currently, OJK has begun discussions with the insurance industry, including private companies interested in participating.
"When we talked to the industry earlier, we saw that this was a good initiative. One example is my meeting with the CEO of Gojek, who expressed interest in collaborating on this. And I think that’s a positive sign. But again, it is still unclear how it will be implemented," he explained.
One of the main challenges of this proposal is determining who will bear the insurance costs (premiums). According to Djonieri, one possibility is to include the insurance budget within the funds already allocated by the government for the program.
However, he emphasized that this scheme is still just a proposal and no official decision has been made.
